Richard Lewis (mayor)

Richard Lewis (1824 – January 1875) was the mayor of Victoria, British Columbia for only one term in 1872.〔No Ordinary People: Victoria's Mayors Since 1862 by Valerie Green - Beach Holme Publishers 1992〕 He arrived in the Colony of Vancouver Island in 1858 from San Francisco.
He was an architect by training but started an undertaking business because of the lack of work for architects in the early days of the city.
He served as an alderman on the first city council in 1862.
In the 1870s he returned to architecture and is responsible for the Masonic Temple〔http://web.uvic.ca/vv/student/edges_of_time/masonic.html〕 and the Lascelles building〔http://wikimapia.org/21591318/Southgate-Lascelles-Building〕 at Government and Fort Street.
